Heavy-Lift Vessels Delivered to COSCO
Two new 36,000-deadweight-ton heavy-lift vessels have been delivered to China Ocean Shipping Group, or COSCO, from its facilities in Nantong, Jiangsu province, China.
The Tian Fu and Tian Lu are part of a series of eight 36,000 dwt vessels the firm has ordered. They represent the largest multipurpose heavy-lift vessels in COSCO’s fleet.
Each vessel has a length overall of 189.9 meters, a breadth of 28.5 meters and a draft of 11 meters. The vessels are equipped with four cranes capable of providing 200-ton tandem lift capacity and vessel holds with large hatches.
This provides cargo-loading capacity of more than 14,000 square meters and about 31,000 cubic meters for bulk cargo storage.
COSCO owns more than 130 vessels worldwide and ranks sixth in number of container ships and ninth in aggregate container volume in the world. The Chinese government said in December that COSCO was to merge with rival China Shipping Group in response to weak global demand and a projected slump in the country’s port sector. Together, COSCO and China Shipping control 488 billion yuan (US$74.7 billion) worth of assets, according to estimates from Barclays analysts.
